Famous Person:

John Calvin Coolidge

"Nothing in the world can take the place of persistence. Talent will not; nothing is more common than unsuccessful men with talent. Genius will not; unrewarded genius is almost a proverb. Education will not; the word is full of educated derelicts. Persistence and determination alone are omnipotent. The slogan, "press on" has solved, and always will solve the problems of the human race."

Calvin Coolidge became the 30th president of the United States in 1923 when Warren G. Harding died in office. He then became president in his own right in the elections of 1924, with the slogan "Keep Cool with Coolidge." He earned the nickname "Silent Cal" because of his tendency to using words sparingly. A story goes that a woman sitting next to him at a dinner one night said to him, "Mr. Coolidge, I made a bet with a friend of mine that I could get you to say more than two words tonight. What do you say to that?" He replied, "You lose."
