A month before leaving for our trip, I wrote to all 50 governors with the following request:
"If I had only one week to visit your state, what would you recommend I see? Please don't refer my request to your Tourist Bureau; I'm looking for your personal recommendation. It's a question I'm asking every State Governor in the country and will post all answers on our website, Postcards From America" . . .
Twenty-eight of the fifty governors responded, although not all responded personally despite my request. Some responded personally by letter, email or phone, and some not at all. Others delegated the task to an assistant. On the following pages we have tried to faithfully reproduce the style of their responses. (Note: These are historic letters from 1997. Of course many of the governors have since left office.) Click on your state to see how your governor responded.
