Bodie Island Lighthouse, Outer Banks NC

Built in 1847, rebuilt in 1859, blown up in 1862, rebuilt in 1872. For 150 years this white pillar of light encircled in ebony rings served as a celestial beacon to ships lost in the "Graveyard of the Atlantic."
