Wyoming women . . .
The frontier women of the 1800s were a hardy lot, working side by side with their husbands in the field and in the home. It's no wonder that in 1868 when Wyoming became a US Territory, women were given the right to vote almost immediately, thanks to leadership of Esther Hobart Morris, the "Mother of Women Suffrage, who was also the first woman appointed Justice of the Peace. This legislation made the Wyoming Territory the first government on earth to grant women equal rights. The Equality State is true to its name.
